Settled in my spot for the day in a shooting house watching a cutover and a small green patch. Little colder then what the forecast was so should be a good morning.

Sitting in a pine hardwood mix by what is left on an old house place, it's just a foundation now. I've been listening to a bunch of hens raising cain since the sun came up.

Must not be raining there. It is headed that way tho. Been raining here since before daylight. Hunt Safe Fellas. I hope you have your rain gear.

Today was a fun day. Into the woods at 10 till six. As I got settled in there were deer already moving. I was sitting on a ridge overlooking a bottom and up another ridge line, and had two walk behind me. They saw me, and were smaller bucks, but they did not spook. Just as they got over the ridge I hit a quick grunt call, and a nice eight point tore across the ridge in front of me. Made a 120yd shot with .243. Would post a pic but not sure how to do that. I’d happily text it to someone to post for me.

Thanks perchjerker! I know it could’ve “gotten bigger next year”, but I’ve never even seen one that large while holding a gun. Biggest deer we’ve taken from our private land in 15 years, and first buck in three. There is a lot of pressure around the area on them, and I was blessed to get him.

Saw 8 this morning no shooters. Went to the truck for lunch and changed the scenery for this afternoon. The wind is swirling 3 different directions right now but hopefully is calm down before dark.

I am sure that there is someone more knowledgeable in why but almost all of the deer on our property have this type of pattern. Obviously genetics, but I killed a doe during bow season with the same types of white. She was more red than this guy and aged at 4-4.5 years old. All of my friends that hunt mention it almost immediately.

I would tan the hide that is nice. Look up on the internet. You may can freeze it and fold it possible. Maybe tan a couple at one time. Takes a little time, but is cheap.
