LFTT 2/9/17 - 02/09/17 04:43 AM

Alright fella's, we are almost down to the wire... who's battling this wind with me today? I'll be hunting on the downwind side of a huge pine thicket that I hope has a hot doe in it.

Good luck to everyone hunting this windy Thursday. thumbup

I'm headed out myself. Headed down into a pine thicket hopefully to get out of the wind some. Good luck out there today and be safe!

Re: LFTT 2/9/17 - 02/09/17 06:41 AM

I'm bout to get out of the truck, take care of a few necessities, and walk into an area I've been wanting to hunt all year. I am on the Southeast corner of a 1000 acre cattle farm surrounded by pine forest. Heck of a funnel in here. Hoping a biggun will be checking the wind around that pasture. This wind is something else. They'll still be moving though. Never seen a wind like this hinder movement yet. Good luck folks.

Re: LFTT 2/9/17 - 02/09/17 07:24 AM

I'm out for a quick 2 hr hunt before I have to go to work this morn. It's been a comedy of errors this morn. Baby was fussy so mama needed help so I was late getting in. Calling for a NW wind and for me in the bottom it's coming outta the east. And finally I guess I didnt tighten my thermos lid down enough and spilled hot coffee all down my back climbing up this morn. I've got little hope to see a deer, but my freezer is empty and I'm hungry!

Watched sun come up from the tree this morning. Nothing moving, not even the tree mice. Wind is not that bad here but can tell its cooling off

Thought it was gonna happen this morn. I caught movement of something bigger than the squirrels and birds slipping through the woods, and it looked to be about the right color, but son of a beotch

Saw a doe and a spike around 10:00. Nothing since. Coming up on a full moon. Maybe they will move mid-day.

Been sitting since 11. Gonna sit til dark. Got a gobbler that's with 17 hens in front of me in a powerline. He's been blowed up for an hour.

Wind is hitting me in the face. I'd give $20 for a tube of chap stick

Back at it for the evening. Been very slow around our place the last few days. Seen a spike this morning hoping to have a little more action this evening

Re: LFTT 2/9/17 - 02/09/17 04:50 PM

Up a tree in south Baldwin. Been pretty slow here the past few hunts. Appears the mature does are in hiding. The few deer we've seen have been fawns and lone young bucks.

Plan to hunt this afternoon and all day tomorrow. Would like to have one more for the freezer.

Good luck to everyone!

HEY. The world is my toilet. I go when and where it has to happen. As should anyone. I rode that dang ladder stand all day and I can say here and now that I have PAID for lesser rides at the State Fair. Not sure if I'll get to go again tomorrow, but thanks to Doe Days and my works schedule, this year sucked ass. This is what happens when you bother to hunt legal in a place that nobody else does.

Re: LFTT 2/9/17 - 02/09/17 07:28 PM

Does, does, does, no bucks. Got a bit illegal myself tonight, by 15min anyways, hard to leave the shooting house with does everywhere and plenty of light to see em.

Re: LFTT 2/9/17 - 02/09/17 09:09 PM

Had 2 does come across around 415 learned a lesson to never use doe urine on pressure does they smelt it and had there tails down and just walked the other way pretty sure they were being chased cause they kept looking back while they where smelling the scent i put out. To bad I learned this lesson on the last week to hunt

Re: LFTT 2/9/17 - 02/09/17 09:24 PM

Had 3 does and a fawn show up right at dark. Was about to get down when I heard some deer coming from behind me through the bottom. Decided I would wait them out. Ended up with a total of 10 in a 3/4 acre plot. Well after legal shooting time but the moon was so bright I waited for a while and watched them through the binos. Of course in my prior post I mentioned the lack of mature doe sightings over the past couple weeks...just another reminder that just cause we don't see them doesn't mean they aren't still around.

Very pleasant evening to be out hunting.

Will be after them again tomorrow and hopeful to get at least one more for the freezer.
