Depends on what part. For most of it MLK day till the end of January is when I would want to be in the woods. Some sections would be earlier than that mostly the northern most parts.

I hunt out in the boldo area and haven't seen a single scrape yet. Got some rubs but that's about it. I found a big tree last year that had at least 6 or 7 scrapes around it. I'm hunting same area and have a camera up on it and been getting all kinds of pictures. Just no scrapes yet. If I remember correctly it was around the first week, week and half of January. I worked in a coal mine in Townley and we always saw them chasing about that same time.

For the Empire/Sumiton area it's now, then again around Jan 18-23ish. Heading tomorrow so maybe I'll report back with observations or even a BBD pic. grin

The area you are in some folks have nailed it. Latter part of January. Don't rule out the 10 days in February either.

It's all over the place. I'm up on north side of co. Next to the lake and it's getting pretty good now. Club is in west part of county and it's not till late January into February

I am not far from you. Based on my observations this part of the state is a decidedly mid to late January rut. Things look to be just kicking up in the woods over the past week based on what I saw, bucks starting to make rub lines and scrapes showing up. I am really glad we have an additional 10 days to hunt in February this year

I saw 3. Button, then what I now believe to be a 4yo that I should've shot, then a spotted fawn. Yes. A spotted fawn. She wasn't far from losing them, but definitely was still sporting spots. So...by my calculations from extensive go ogling, means she was conceived in early Feb? If so I'm pumped for the extended season. Also saw a fresh scrape in a spot that usually has one every year...

It changes all over the county, but over here northwest of Jasper I drank my morning coffee watching to young bucks chasing does hot and heavy in the field behind my house.

I'd say it's getting close. I saw a buck standing by a creek offering a drink to every doe that walked by. It won't be long before an old flop eared ugly one bites, and it should be on....
