Goodness it's brisk this morning. Set up looking over an oak flat on the edge of a 8yr old clear cut with natural regrowth on this section. Rest of it was replanted pines but this 20 acres in the corner wasn't planted.

As you age, you'll realize that your better off spending quality time with your wife or getting caught up on some chores, on raw howling days like today. Its all about quality sits over quantity sits. No one will take away your man card if you skip days like today. Thru the years we tell ourselves "we can't kill one if we don't go". No you can't, but i never kill mature bucks on miserable days. Not saying it can't be done, i've never have, so i don't punish myself.

Saw one within 200 yards of the house as I pulled out of the driveway this morning at 5:15. Went to the club, walked about 3 miles of Bibb County's finest hills and didn't see hide nor hair.
Try again another day.

Hey gents
I'm obviously new on here and new to hunting Alabama. I got a question I'm hoping you can help me out with. I know the Alabama rut is different than most states. I'm hunting Northeast Alabama in DeKalb County. When is the general consensus on when the rut is up here?

Welp, made it to 11 and called it a day. Not all that usual that I just don't see anything all day at this property, but I didn't see squat but blowing trees. When I left the camp it was still reading 32/31 degrees, amazing how that felt so warm compared to the 23 a few hours before. Coulda swore it was up in the 40s.
Got some free time this week as work has slowed way down, so I hope to get out there a couple more times this week.
I tried the ducks this morning only to have my boat not crank and my buddies boat sink and had to go search and rescue mission to save them

I'm hunting a long, narrow foodplot this afternoon in Winston County...My Dad and two of my buddies are all hunting here this afternoon, so hopefully somebody will lay eyes on a good one! It's the time to be here; I'm just glad I'm able to be here this week (thanks to "vacation time")!
Good luck to everyone!

Back at it again with the wife. Switched to a plot surrounded by planted pines with the wind in our face.
