In the drizzle in my lock on in my hardwood bottom. I got my very own lease this year right outside evergreen!
Good luck to everyone this morning!

I'm set up on the edge of a cutover this morning. The rut is almost here so I'm hoping to catch one cruising

Where you hunting at? Further up north?

They Won't be rutting here for another solid month where I'm at! But yesterday morning I climbed down my lock on and seen a scrape about 15 yards away so i go look and it end up being 11 in a row about 60 yards long. So I dunno

Dodge city in cullman. I don't think they will be full blown chasing until a couple more weeks but it's a good time to catch one cruising trying to find one of the first hot does

Re: Honest LFTT - 12/04/16 09:03 AM

it'd be a good day to quietly slip through some woods and check out a new spot or two.

It's still raining here. I'm not mad enough at them right now to go get soaked.

Would you out your camera next to some of them or on the trail he's using going to the next one? They are almost in a straight line

Jono, I see Obi-Wan has trained you well, young Jedi.
Young guys slip in the rain.
Old guys stay home in the dry.

I thought the same thing, AC! I thought (in my best "how Bama fans watch the SEC games voice), "look at Jono giving good advice. Look at him!" grin

Really enjoyed watching him grow as a hunter. He's becoming a killer for sure! thumbup

Re: Honest LFTT - 12/04/16 02:40 PM

I know the old saying that you can't kill one sitting at home on the couch...and I was really looking forward to going this afternoon (would had been only my second chance to go since gun season opened). However I'm hunting a fairly small tract and with the variable wind forecast this afternoon I'm going to sit it out. It's a tough decision because I won't get another opportunity to go until next weekend.

My hope is that showing some restraint today will pay off when conditions are more favorable and the property has been less pressured.

All that being said I'm going to modify the old adage "can't kill one TODAY sitting at home on the couch...but it might be the key to killing one in the future ".

Good luck to all who are giving it a go this evening!

Re: Honest LFTT - 12/04/16 02:46 PM

Live from my recliner...haven't been in the woods yet this year. Still nursing my knee from surgery a week ago, and now dealing with a blood clot in my leg from it. It'll probably be a couple more weeks before I'm good enough to give it a try in the woods.

Good luck out there!

Haha thanks guys! I learned from the best..er most dedicated...errr craziest? I don't know laugh

Unfortunately I can't take my own advice! After a long lunch after a great Student Choir performance at church (Claims Rep's daughter killed it, in a good way!), I will be spending the remainder of my day translating Greek. It never ends friends, it never ends.

Had a doe cruise by on 112 when I went to the store. If it was a little cooler and not such a hard rain I'd be in the woods this evening.

Ain't that the truth. Only thing I slipped up on today was my recliner.

They moved better this pm than yesterday. The fog made it tough at dark but deer were hungry!

Nah - it's either sex last weekend in the wma. I only got to hunt for about ten minutes. Didn't even make it to my blind. Passed on a little bitty 6 and a long spike.

My bad - meant to put this in Saturdays thread.

Geno the hunt was only for December 2-3. You may want to make sure you have a 16-17 map permit.

Rutro

Rutro is right, I bowhunt Oakmulgee WMA about 40-50 days out of the season and I always wear my orange hat even if it's not gun season or a gun hunt because of people not paying attention to the dates on the map permit. You never know when someone will be poaching the WMA. If he was following the rules he would have gone to the Check-in station and saw that no one was around due to the fact that there was not a gun hunt on Sunday (12/4/16)

Not to take the stage from CR's daughter. We had a missionary come home for Thanksgiving. She started at our church at 6. She is 26 now. She played with her father (very good guitarist) and they sang together. I was thinking WoW what must have been running in his mind. What a special moment.
