This is 7 turkeys within 15 Yds. You have to click for video.

My dad wakes up and takes a shower then throws on his walmart camo. He then always seems to kill deer within 20 yards of him sitting on the ground. He stays still and quiet and they walk right up to him and never know hes there

Re: Camo debate...... - 10/22/16 09:57 AM

I never wear camo, have killed hundreds of deer. Setting in stands and on the ground. What really gets me is the people that are all camoed out from head to toe and go to sit in a shooting house.

No Clem, hunting cloths are hunting cloths. If you fall and rip hunting cloths its OK. If you fall and rip new jeans, wife rips you a new one !

Re: Camo debate...... - 10/22/16 05:58 PM

They didn't have camo when Fred Bear was hunting. Tell you what , dress head to toe in black and let someone see you with a gun ! I doubt the reaction will be the same as a guy carrying a gun in camo.

Some of the biggest deer I have seen mounted were killed by people wearing regular clothes. That's because people wore them before everyone started hunting. Now hunting is a money business just like everything else IMO.

He did in the 70's and 80's. I've killed alot of deer wearing old army fatigues from the 60's. My uncles gave me all of their army camo. One of my favorite bow jackets is a Dollar General brown and tan plaid jacket lined with what looks like a cotton hoodie. It's quiet, warm and I've never been spotted while wearing it by deer.

How many deer did you kill? lol

Having asked that, There is way more money in fooling hunters than deer...don't matter if it is camo, scent control, bait, or whatever; that is a fact.

Re: Camo debate...... - 10/23/16 07:53 AM

Hey Lou Lou, much of that new fangled stuff does work as advertised and does give the hunter an edge. Some is total BS. It's up to each hunter to wade through the BS and figure out what will help him, if it fits into his hunting style and is it worth the $.

Re: Camo debate...... - 10/23/16 09:37 PM

Whether or not it actually hides me better or not, I don't know. But I do tend to treat my camo more carefully and am aware of getting scent on them more than my regular clothes.

Love my old original Advantage camo; if my original Trebark had not worn completely out, I would still wear it...

Re: Camo debate...... - 10/25/16 08:40 PM

I'm partial to outfitters camo like from bass pro or cabelas. The pattern is just 3 different colors similar to the old woodland camo and seems to work great in all environments. Mossyoak, real tree, etc looks like a dark blob at distance because the patterns are too small to break up your outlines.

I don't always wear camo but when I do I prefer mossy oak treestand.

Back in the late seventies and eighties I would hunt in tiger stripes camouflage that was worn by the special forces in Vietnam. You could get them at any army navy surplus store. It was a damn good camo pattern.
