salt/mineral lick and buddy heaters - 01/20/16 07:00 PM

I have a mineral lick i started years ago and hunt in the area where it is if i go ahead and freshen it up and decide to hunt in the area is it against the law like having a corn pile in front of you or is it defined differently? The second question for anyone that has a buddy heater they take hunting have you noticed a difference in deer sightings having it compared to not taking one in the woods?

the light the heater gives off would be the only problem ,,, imo.

as for smell i think the heater might help , hot air raises faster .

I have never known of anyone getting a ticket for hunting near a mineral site. I think if you were written up for doing this, they were mad because they couldn't write you for something else they suspect you were doing.

Me and my wife both hunt with a heater and I've never noticed it affecting the deer at all.

We were using buddy heater this weekend and my wife was able to shoot her first deer. We had been using another one but was noisy. We were in a shooting house so don't know if it made that big of a difference.

I use heaters in my shooting houses. Heat up hot chocolate and Vienna sausages and watch deer while me and my boy talk and snack. Shooting houses are sealed up real good. Only time I ever got busted, I opened a window with a buck about 15 yards downwind. Other than that, they never pay a bit of attention to us. I think sealed well with good windows is the key. Best way to keep a kids mind in the game. My boys been going with me since he was 5. Heater is a must.

Idk about the Hot Vienna sausages. Do heat them to get them hot or just to decoagulate the juice.

Is it necessary to crack a window for fresh air when using a Buddy Heater, I always do?

I have used heaters for years and it has ZERO affect on deer!! Heater = warm and cozy! No heater = frozen ass and cold toes!!

Use a buddy heater & never had problems with deer not coming in though I was concerned like you the first time I used one. Made no difference.

Had mine running all afternoon, had deer all over my plot with 3 les than 25 yards away & they never knew it was running but I sure did! Makes it possible to sit in the cold for much longer!

I get too worried about carbon monoxide to use a heater. If I can't layer up and stay warm I don't go.
